1. Does the customer tune the radio to their vehicle? Does the customer set up a microphone in the vehicle?

When purchased through www.crutchfield.com, The Bongiovi Acoustics Digital Power Station™ (DPS) comes with a tuning CD that contains a profile optimized for all vehicles. The tuning process (we call it vehicle profiling) is extremely complex and comprehensive, with over 120 algorithm calibration points. There is no “auto calibration” setup by the user or Bongiovi Acoustics engineers and there are no active adjustments made to the Digital Power Station™ through the use of microphones placed in the cabin. The end user simply installs the profile with the supplied CD. After the tuning process is complete, the user engages or disengages the processor by pushing a button and we recommend that you always listen with the processor in the on position. You may use the treble and bass co ntrols to fine tune the system to suit your individual taste.

2. Who sets the “profile” for my vehicle?

The Bongiovi Digital Power Station™ is tuned by Bongiovi Acoustics engineers using standard engineering practices in test vehicles supplied by the automobile manufactures. This software tuning, (vehicle profile) is included on a CD so that the user can tune the KD-S100 and enable the DPS technology.

3. Does the Digital Power Station™ help in overcoming road, structural, or wind noise in a vehicle?

The Bongiovi Digital Power Station™ does take into consideration the acoustic characteristics of each vehicle under different conditions. During the tuning process we test drive the vehicle to make sure the sound is optimized for all conditions. In fact, when we tune convertible vehicles we actually tune the vehicle while it is in motion with the top down to optimize the listening experience.

4. Can the Digital Power Station™ be added to any existing car stereo?

No. The process cannot be added to any existing car stereo. Our Digital Power Station™ algorithm must be inserted in the signal chain at a precise location; such is the case of our JVC designed radio. We can, however, support any type of digital signal processor in virtually any consumer electronic device.

5. Is the Digital Power Station™ tuned to one specific area of the automobiles cabin?

NO. When we set a vehicle profile, we actually monitor each listening position and make adjustments to optimize the listening experience in any position in the cabin.

6. How long does it take to install the radio in a vehicle?

The installation takes only minutes when performed by a certified car audio technician.

7. How long does it take to install the profile in the KD-S100? Who does this?

The code is downloaded from the supplied CD into the KD-S100 in less than 2 minutes. This process is simply done by the end user.

8. With all of this digital signal processing could I risk damage to my vehicle’s speakers?

NO. There is transient protection built into the Digital Power Station™. The processed signal is calibrated to operate within the design specifications of automotive speakers. In fact it is specifically calibrated to maximize the performance characteristics of the speakers .

9. How can you possibly create that much bass response without adding subwoofers and extra amplifiers?

We utilize a method known as “acoustic coupling”. We acoustically couple the low frequency component of a vehicle’s existing speaker installation. This produces the amazing low-end response in your vehicle.

10. How do customers know if this radio is available for their car?

The KD-S100 can be installed where any other aftermarket radio can be installed. Please check with your salesperson for specifics regarding your vehicle.

12. How does the Digital Power Station™ technology work in a car radio? How does it maximize the listening experience regardless of what type of signal source or music genre?

The following is a rudimentary explanation of how Bongiovi Acoustics engineers bring studio quality sound to your vehicle:

First, a brief history lesson: Throughout the years recording technologies and techniques have vastly improved, allowing extended frequency response and dynamic range to be introduced to the program material and playback environment. Today’s digital recordings are much different than those recorded in the 40’s, and t oday’s playback medium is vastly different than vinyl records of the 50’s-80’s and CD’s in the 90’s.

Bongiovi Acoustics Digital Power Station™ technology uniquely addresses the issue of recorded sound techniques. For example, many of today’s modern digital recordings are made up of computer generated sounds. Up until the introduction of digital technology, all music since the beginning of time was created and/or recorded acoustically. Even an electric guitar was recorded acoustically via amplifier or microphone.

The sophisticated Digital Power Station™ processor recognizes the difference between all of the various types of recordings. It constantly scans the program material in real time, looks for deficiencies in frequency response and actively compensates for any anomalies in the source material.

The result is a linear presentation of the program material creating a balanced frequency response in every source material introduced to the playback device.

13. How do you set a vehicle’s unique profile to optimize the listening experience?

Utilizing accepted engineering standards & practices we complete the following evaluation & profiling for vehicles.

First we introduce pink noise into the vehicle compartment. We then perform a 1/3 octave analysis on each speaker, its enclosure and its location. This provides us with a precise algorithm relati ve to the speaker performance characteristics.

Next, we use pink noise to do a 1/3 octave analysis at each listening position to measure the performance of the “system”. This provides us with another precise algorithm relative to the vehicles interior. Note: We actually take certain acoustic anomalies of the passenger compartment and utilize them to optimize the listening experience.

Next we calibrate each channel. This calibration includes active frequency gain amplification and passive equalization and represents 120 fine tuning adjustments.

Next, we do a combined analysis of the vehicle’s acoustics relative to the system’s performance. Vehicles have specific acoustic characteristics which are directly related to the cabin dimensions and design.

Next, we fine tune the system by listening to specific program material that our engineers are intimately familiar with.

We then combine the results of these tests from hundreds of different vehicles to formulate the precise programming of the Digital Power Station™ processor optimized for all vehicles. The end result is studio quality sound for your vehicle.
