POWER STATION “THE FACILITY”: A brief history

World famous Power Station Studios is without question the undisputed platinum standard for recording studio design and operations today. The studio is the vision of legendary recording engineer and producer Tony Bongiovi. Since the age of seventeen, when he was an engineer at Detroit’s Motown Records, Tony has worked in the world’s finest studio facilities. While producing hit records at Media Sound in New York City and after working with the best design and technology that the industry had to offer, Tony saw the need for a new and radically different approach to hit-making. As a result, Tony conceived, designed and built the world-renowned Power Station Studio Complex in1977 in midtown Manhattan. The facility was initially intended to be a private production facility from which Tony could create. At the time it was considered a high-risk venture. In fact, Power Station’s construction was funded by royalty proceeds from Tony’s many hit records.

Power Station quickly became a commercial success, its unique operational capabilities and spectacular acoustic characteristics immediately taking the industry by storm. Power Station was quickly recognized by the record industry as “the room” to use for recording. It’s client list reads like a whos-who of the recording industry, attracting clients from around the globe. The studio has received every major award that the industry has to offer, winning Mix Magazine’s prestigious TEC Award (Technical Excellence and Creativity) as Studio of the Year for an unprecedented 6 years, the maximum number permitted. In fact, Power Station was the first recipient of the recording industry’s highest honor. The Les Paul Award is a special lifetime achievement award that was bestowed upon Power Station for its consistent contributions to audio excellence and creativity. The facility’s obvious advantages have redefined “the standard” in the recording industry. In the mid-1990's, Power Station’s design was licensed to Sonalysts, Inc., A Connecticut based, high tech company that specializes in defense department contracts and certain private sector projects. Power Station is part of a world-class, award winning facility that includes film production facilities, shooting stages and an animation center. Sonalysts’ Power Station Studios New England continues the excellence associated with the Power Station name, serving both the defense department, its contractors and the private sector.

Power Station clients include: Madonna, AC/DC, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Beach Boys, Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, Eric Clapton, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, Whitney Houston, Billy Joel, B.B.
